I wonder what resemblance the colors the artist who tinted the cards chose bear on the actual colors of the costumes, or if they had even seen the costumes or perhaps were just inventing them based on their own idea of what they should look like? What a fun job that would have been, tinting these wild and slightly risque showgirl pictures... it would have been like being paid to color in the world's most fabulous coloring books all day long! I have always wanted an excuse to make costumes like these but I can't quite think of an appropriate occasion for them. I can not complain, as I have had the very good fortune to get to dress up in costumes like this for Art Deco Society events over the years, and it just as much fun (or possibly even more) than it looks like! I will share some of those in future posts. But if you want to see more of these great postcards from the Casino de Paris, check out my "showgirls" board on my Pinterest, which by clicking on the images you should be able to follow back to the boards I found them on; most of which have even more of these pictures which I have not posted here.

Casino de Paris, part one.
Lately, thanks to my ongoing Pinterest addiction, I have finally been able to find a bunch of these amazing tinted images of the showgirls from the Casino de Paris - I never knew there were so many! I have always been fascinated by the showgirl costumes of the teens though twenties, there is something so fun about them. The most popular ideas for them seem to have been for the girls to represent the 'spirit' of something, (spring, the night sky, a city, an ancient civilization, etc) but some of them seem to be completely invented from the imagination of the artist who made them, reminding me as much of wild modern couture runway fashion as they do small town fourth of July parade floats.
